Happy Fall Friday

Warning: cheesy/sentimental content ahead. Proceed at your own risk and blah blah b..

Do you ever have those times where you feel like everything sucks– bad? Like, you are never going to get really really rich (enough to live your neighborhood of choice and have a sail boat), and are going to be instead stuck hustling for the rest of your life? Like, why the eff did you waste your last 6 months running your arse off, just to get bronchitis a few weeks before the biggest race of your life? Like you are being bored to death by your own day-to-day? Like, why the crap did you ever learn to ride on snow, if you were just going to torture yourself and move 2000 miles away from the good stuff?

I have those times (yesterday). Sometimes it really gets to me. Then I try put things in perspective. And this is what I came up with to cap off the week–

Holy crap, I:

  • have one of the most ridiculously amazing people in the world as my permanent girl pal.
  • have a daughter who has defied all odds and done it in swimmingly cute fashion.
  • have quite possibly the coolest group of family and friends ever.
  • such awesome family and friends (I seriously love you guys).
  • live in one of my favorite places on the planet (that I have been to).
  • have a ton of cool stuff.
  • make enough to pay the bills (and occasionally have a bit extra).
  • have some fake jobs that I LOVE doing.
  • have access to a ton of great music to put me in a good mood.
  • would like to mention one more time how much I love my awesome friends and family (I have heard that some people don’t have either).
  • occasionally seriously underappreciate stuff.
  • might as well light some candles,  make some popcorn and watch a chick-flick after doing this post.
  • will most likely regret doing such a corny post, but whatev.

So, there is that. Happy Friday.

  1. Well said. I promise I won’t make fun of you for sounding like a girl.

  2. Dear Jakolyn,
This was an awesome post. I have felt the familiar what the eff am I sitting at this desk for and other blah blah blah “low” moments. But it’s so great to step back and realize that no matter what, if you have amazing friends, a hysterical lover and supportive family in your life…you’ve got it GOOD. Amen, sista. Now, let’s go watch The Notebook.
    -Carrie

  3. @Col: Hahaha. Thanks, man. You can make fun, if you want.

@Carrie: Jakolyn?! Hahahahah. Totally. I’ll fire up the TV you bring the nail polish.

  4. This post just goes to show you are totally and completely normal! It’s the hi’s and low’s of life and you just have to ride the waves of the hi’s and paddle out of the low’s and the hi’s will come again 🙂
And if it makes you feel any better I too am feeling the blah’s so I decided to redo my bathrooms and I have printed off your two awesome black and white bathroom shots with the quotes to frame and put in my bathroom so you will be famous….in my bathroom at my house…but still famous! 🙂

  5. I love how honest this post is. I hate it when people are always “look at me” with their blogs. Life isn’t like that. And your list made me smile! I’m really pulling for you to get that sailboat too ;). Also, please let Reagan know that I’ve been loving her ombre hair. The dark looks so cute on her! Your awesome. Keep it up.

  6. I would also like to suggest The Notebook. I really love this post. Its funny how life falls out of perspective sometimes. I think you guys have the coolest lives around. But maybe just maybe you should figure a pip ride, and move back to Utah so that we can all be best friends. You would get paid more for your real and fake jobs. (although im not sure Kim K will ever hold her birthday party here).. Anyways, you would for sure be able to afford your house and sail boat. I hear Utah Lake is beautiful for sailing this time of year. Just an idea..

  7. Now that’s some awesome gratitude!!!

  8. Aw, we all have days like that. Life is hard hard man, it does kill us aferall haha. I heard that somewhere and thought that was funny. But you’re right, look at all those great things you have going for you! And you should give yourself a break because you work your ass off, from the looks of things, and maybe your sick self just needs time to rest!

  9. Sometimes you need a good sap fest to remember all the reasons you have to be happy. You know – “count your blessings, name them one by one….” and all that.

  10. Dude. Go look at those pictures of SuperPip and ScissorGirl. I have never seen such awesomeness/adorableness/creativeness bundled up so perfectly before!!

That right there should cure whatever ails ya!

  11. It’s funny because…99% of responses to this post are from girls, right? Hahahaha. It’s ok. Take heart, my friend. I don’t know anyone well who hasn’t felt this exact same way sometimes. It’s weird to have those adult moments of realization: “I totally planned to be ruling the world by this time in my life. Shoot. I don’t think it’s going to happen. Oh well…what then?” You are right about the things that matter.

I am sorry about your race training. I hope you’ll be able to do the race. You’ve worked hard.
    🙂

I’m glad you did this post. 🙂 It makes me think of all the wonderful things I have in my life, too. And your on that list, Love you Reag!

  13. Jake, your posts could only be over the top girly if they start with the phrase “dear diary”.

and hey, I had such a great time with you guys….thanks for making the trip.

    *hugs*

  14. What an awesome post! Never feel awkward sharing your feelings…..It’s one of the qualities that make a man irresistable! Reagan is a lucky girl!

  15. This post made me laugh in a good way. I love your list! I’ll always take care of the snow for you alright? I’m going to write you an email right now cause I’m coming to town!

  16. I like this post.
