PJB possibly moving to Jersey

by

Piper news: she is currently at Columbia and we are kind of milking it. After she recovered from her scary episode at Christmas, she was transferred back to Blythedale in Westchester County. She got sick the second day that she was back there and about a week later, they sent her to the ER at Westchester Medical. It was a very scary night. She had stopped breathing at some point and by the time that Reagan and I arrived at the hospital, she was in very poor condition. After they were able to hydrate her and get her breathing steadily again, she was doing better momentarily. They transferred her to the PICU at Columbia the next evening. When she arrived at Columbia, she was worse than the night before. The doctors worked all night trying to find the right cocktail of medications and support settings to keep her alive. Her blood pressure was all over the map. One minute, it would be through the roof, and the next minute, it was barely picking up. They ended up putting her on an oscillating ventilator. It is kind of scary to watch someone who is hooked up to one becuase it pumps air in and out so fast that it almost looks like the person is having an epileptic seizure. During all of this, Piper’s heart stopped at one point and the doctor had to stimulate it to get it going again. This was the scariest night that I have ever personally experienced. I don’t know what we would have done without having such good friends that were there to support us the whole way. The doctors kept her in a coma the whole time that she was on the oscillating ventilator which ended up being about 3 days. Currently she is much better. She is actually to well for them to keep her in the PICU any longer, which means that she has to move again. Reagan and I have decided that for whatever reason, Blythedale doesn’t seem like the right place for Piper. We are going to tour a place in New Brunswick NJ tomorrow morning. Hopefully we will have a really good feeling about this place (and Piper will too).
