USS Intrepid is coming home!

by

The USS Intrepid is a retired WWII aircraft carrier that has been converted into a museum. For years, it was moored next to Pier 86 in Chelsea. Two years ago, the ship was moved from it’s moorings to a dry dock in NJ to be refurbished. It was a pretty spectacular sight, to watch the ship be led down the Hudson and through the harbor. This is a picture that I took 2 years ago, from my office building, while it was being moved. Later this morning, the Intrepid will be making the trek back to pier 86, where it will once again be open to the public as a sea, air and space museum. I’m really hoping that I will be able to observe some of the process, again. For those interested, it will be leaving a port in Staten Island around 11:30, passing the Statue of Liberty around 12:30, and should be back at Pier 86 around 1:30.
