When we woke up Sunday morning, Reagan decided that she just couldn’t wait a minute longer to see Piper, so we packed up the car early and headed to Westchester County. The difference in the drive up there, from winter to summer is very dramatic. In the winter, the parkways are ugly and depressing. In the summer, it feels like you are driving through the middle of a forest. The scenery, coupled with the weather proved to the source of high morale for the day. When we arrived at Blythedale, Piper wasn’t having the best day. She has just woken up when we came in, and didn’t seem like she was super happy to hang out with us. After puking a few times and squirming around a lot, it appeared that she was finally starting to enjoy our visit. Piper is still doing pretty well. She has been on the portable ventilator since last Wednesday and appears to be tolerating it without any major glitches. Despite Piper’s less than chipper mood, in the morning, we still had a really good visit with her. Of course we took pictures, go here, if you are interested. Piper’s new social worker left some literature for us, regarding the nearest long-term care facilities, that Piper would be a candidate for. We aren’t sure how long before Piper will be referred to a long term place, but it may be a good thing, just for the sake of continuity. Piper has never stayed more than 2 months in the same location, since she left the NICU. We still have not completely written off the idea of bringing her home, but it seems like a long term place, at least initially, will be the most likely route.
