I have had nightmares about being in an elevator that suddenly started to free fall. I always wondered what I would do if that happened to me. Would I try to jump when it was going to impact? How would you even know, to time it right? Would it even make a difference? Anyway, according to this article on NY1, it happened to a woman who lives about three blocks from us, last night. Apparently she got in, and it gave out. Luckily, she only fell from the 6th floor. The woman was purportedly hospitalized at St. Luke’s, after the fall. The article says that residents reported that the same elevator recently fell from the 1st floor to the basement, causing another resident to be hospitalized. Can you imagine? Would you ever get in that rickety old elevator again, after it took a plunge like that? Whenever we visit friends in our neighborhood, that have elevators in their buildings, Reagan always takes the stairs. I try to race her in the elevator. From now on, I think that I will be joining Reagan on the stairs.
