What’s New with PJB

Piper is still at Columbia. She was supposed to be having a procedure done today which would modify her G-tube into a GJ-tube. The G-tube is the tube that she is fed with. It goes directly into her stomach. She has been having a lot of reflux lately and as a result, her doctors have not been able to have as aggressive of a feeding schedule for her, as they would like. This is part of the reason that she is still so small. The GJ-tube will have 2 separate catheters. One that still goes right into her stomach, for medicine. Then, one that goes a little farther into her small intestine, for feeding. The doctors are hoping that if they can give her food a little bit of head start on its way through her digestive tract, she will be able to tolerate it a little better without all of the vomiting. As I mentioned, she was scheduled to have the procedure done today, but apparently on Saturday she had a bit of a fever. So they took a culture that came back positive on Monday. She is presently on antibiotics and will hopefully be able to have the procedure done later this week. Aside from all of that, she seems to be doing well. We had a really fun visit with her on Sunday. The Smoots came by with Stella. Stella is getting so big, I can’t even believe it. She was really cute with Piper. The Smoots also brought some loaner toys for Piper, who has been bored out of her mind, since she was sent back to Columbia without any.

  1. Evidently Nurse Ratched wasn’t there to kick Stella out?
