I mean, at this point I may as well go for an MD

Yesterday, Reagan and I took an early afternoon trip out to visit with Piper’s Doctors. The visit was pretty good. Nothing major has changed since our last visit. They haven’t been able to make any progress on her vent settings, in fact, they have done a little backsliding in that area. It isn’t anything overly concerning, just mildly frustrating. Piper also has refused to gain any weight. They are going to start giving her continuous feeds that are supplemented with extra calories and lipid, in hopes to beef her up a bit. After the meeting, it was time for the dirty work. I have been procrastinating as long as possible, learning how to change Piper’s trache. Not only am I naturally squeamish about things of that nature, but even more so when it deals with someone who I know personally and care about. Anyway, the doctor gave me a quick run-through about technique, etc.. Then we got everything prepped, put gloves on, positioned Piper correctly. I took a huge breath and counted to three, at which point Reagan took out the old trache and I quickly inserted the new one. Reagan inflated the cuff and it was all done. Phew! It all went so quickly and smooth, that Piper didn’t really even flinch. After the trache change, we had a nice visit with Piper and filled out a bunch of paperwork, that we had already filled out once and was subsequently lost somewhere a long the bureaucratic chain after we submitted it. Grrrr. Even though the paperwork part was crappy, it definitely wasn’t enough to diminish a very fun visit with our little squirt.
