Thursday evening we set out on a secret mission that I dubbed “project: snap tree.” We hit 6 trees, all in one evening. We started in DUMBO and worked our way up town, mixing in some burgers along the way. For the most part these shots were a combination of super long exposures with light painting (thanks for the idea on the light painting, Seth).

Those are cool pictures. It’s really cool how the light radiates like a star. Plus, to top it all off with burgers, sounds like the perfect night.
I like the pictures! How did get it to say Piper and everything? Merry Christmas Eve!
Thanks, guys! Kat, we were just drawing in air with LED panels/sparklers, with a 15/30 second shutter speed.
Great work as always Jake
Stunning and inspired. The light painting is genius! (I had wrongly assumed you had Photoshopped Piper’s name.)
Jake, these are so inspiring. Thanks for sharing your artistic talents in such a beautiful way.
Nice photos! Can’t wait to see you next week!
Is the first light pen path a Reagan dance?
@Mimi: Yeah, it is Reagan and our friends Sam and Anna dancing around the tree with sparklers.
those are so freaking cool. see, you say things like shutter speed and what not, and i don’t even know what that means. dammit. i need to take a photography class.
