Last weekend was one of those times when I could have cloned myself and built a time machine, and still not have been able to get in everything that I wanted to. Saturday night, I checked out the new Hole Gallery in SoHo. It will eventually be moving to the old Deitch space (above).
Check out more on the new gallery, over here.
Sunday morning, bright and early, I was off to Governor’s Island to cover the Cliquot Polo Match. Because of the tight schedule that I had Sunday, I wasn’t even able to stick around for any of the actual match. So, all I shot was the red carpet stuff, and a little bit of the venue. What was cool, is that my spot in the pit was right next to a dude that was shooting a sort of weekend-long progression editorial 10 page spread on Nic Roldan. I had a good time chatting it up with him.
Nacho Figueras and his wife seemed really cool. I liked the shot below with Ivanka and BF.
Here is a shot looking back at Manhattan from the VIP side of the field. Hopefully next year I’ll be able to stick around for all of the action.
After catching the ferry back to Manhattan, I motored back to WaHi, and picked up Reagan, who had been working on a shoot of her own, all morning. We took a very lovely drive to Ridgefield Connecticut for the KAWS Gallery solo exhibit opening at the Aldrich Gallery.
The gallery was awesome. It is set back in the woods and has a really cool design. We chatted with the artist a bit before shooting the exhibit (Reagan and KAWS, above). Check out more on that, here.
Last but not least, we had a great visit with Piper, on the way home. I did get some pics. But the poor things has a pretty noticeable rash under her nose, right now. I don’t think that she would want those photos going up. She was super pissed off, when we first arrived, because she had just been bathed. But she calmed right down, and got into mischief mode, in no time. Her latest thing is pulling on her trache tubes. It is kind of scary, actually. Her nurse told us that early this week, Piper was actually successful in pulling it completely out. I hope that this new trick of her’s is just a passing phase.

rad. why didnt you post the one of Kaws with the mysterious third leg? 🙂 You live such a dream life with so many cool gigs.
xaque: hahaha. Dude, I was so pissed about that photo. This little douchebag kept jumping in every shot. I wanted to say something. But his dad was right there watching him do it. The best I could do was put Brian right in front of him. It bugged me so bad that I sent them an edited version to swap out.
ahhh Jake, you get to shoot/do the coolest stuff!!! Obviously Calgary, Alberta just doesn’t cut it! I’m so jealous and raking my brain to come up with a list of pros to present to my husband as to why he should move his company there! Didn’t I read on one of your blogs that you are in law?? (I used to be in Intellectual Property law) where do you find the time?
Seriously, Jake, this post is great! NY is such a special place and I’m so envious!
p.s. how come your wife is always so pretty????
@gina: So nice, Gina. I’m sure that you would do well here. IP law, eh? Nice! My practice is finance related. The photo gigs are nice because they don’t really seem like work, most of the time. It is a good break from the usual grind.
@Maki: Thanks, Maki! I don’t really know how I was lucky enough to land Reagan as a wife. She really does look great all of the time (despite what she thinks). I’ll pass along the compliments. 🙂
