Ok, this one is a serious throwback. Going all the way to my days in Jr. high. They were before Silverchair and The Vines. At the time, Midnight Oil was like the coolest Australian band since Men at Work. They had a couple of songs that were kind of anthems of the era. Like, “Bed’s are Burning.” The song that I’m sharing tonight is actually off of the same album, “Diesel and Dust” (1987). The whole album was one of my staple jams, in like 7th grade. Anyway, grab your self a Vegemite sandwich and revisit “Dreamworld.”

I read both your blogs about Piper Jane. Midnight Oil – thanks for the reminder of such good music. He is now a politician …..mmmm
Have you ever had a vegemite sandwich or vegemite on toast? Fabulous…
In Australian vernacular we would say “Piper is a lovely little vegemite or, cute as a bandicoot!”
Kind thoughts to you both……..
@Jane: I did have Vegemite, once. I was pretty young, though. Someone brought it to school for show and tell. I think that I was expecting something sweet, like peanut butter or nutella. So I didn’t like it very much. But I bet I would like it better, now that I know what to expect. I bet it would be good on bagels.
I love thinking of Piper as a little Vegemite, hehe. Thanks for your comment 🙂
We just finished listening to a week of Midnight Oil because Mike has dubbed them the best roadtrip band. My favorite song of ALL TIME is In The Valley. (I love, I love, I love it.) They did a show here several years ago. MIke and I were laughing really hard, because when we pulled into the parking lot 90% of the vehicles there were minivans.
I love Peter Garrett.
I humbly suggest that INXS was the coolest Australian band since the Bee Gees. Although the Bee Gees aren’t really Australian. Also, the Bee Gees aren’t really cool. So, logically, this makes INXS the coolest Australian band ever.
(I feel like I have some expertise here: my high school boyfriend had Diesel and Dust, and I had all of INXS discography at the time. So I had both bands on heavy rotation circa ’87-’89.)
