Piper has been keeping the cute-meter needle turned up to eleven, for the past several visits. This weekend was no exception. On Saturday when we arrived, she was sleeping with both hands over her head, fingers wrapped securely around the crib bars. Reagan had to pry them off to wake her up. When we wake Piper up, it normally takes her a little while to get her in the mood to be social (she gets that from me). We wanted her to be social, though, since Reagan’s cousin Ben was in town and meeting Piper for the first time.
To avoid agitating Piper, we didn’t even bother wiping the crustys off of her face. Reagan held her first, for about 10 minutes. When Reagan tried to pass Piper off to me, Piper started full-on crying. When Piper cries, it doesn’t really make a noise. It kind of just sounds like a little sad kitten. But she has the really sad cry face and little tears coming out of her eyes. It was adorable and heart-breaking at the same time. I passed her back to Reagan and she calmed right down. A little while later, we tried the hand-off again, with the same result. After about 30 minutes, Piper was ok with being held by someone else.
She was a little bit suspicious of Ben, at first (see below). But she warmed up to him after no time.

She is so sweet Jake. We will be heading back there hopefully in January, if everything goes okay with the election! We’d love to stop in and say hi and meet little Piper! Hope all is well with you all.
Aw look on her face makes me smile – she’s so suspicious indeed of her cousin! So precious!
I am teary eyed. She is the sweetest thing. Ben loved her. I am so jealous he got to meet her!
We’re all suspicious of Ben. There’s something about his handsome, good natured, salt of the earth sweetness that I don’t trust.
great first shot. I love Piper’s expression in the second.
