Here I was blaming the problem on the hosting provider, when it was something else all along. For whatever reason, some anti-spam software that I installed last week (so that people no longer had to copy that stupid little captcha code, while commenting) had gone haywire and was killing the load time. So, thanks Mediatemple, for slugging through all of the troubleshooting with me on the phone. Also, sorry for pointing the finger.
