Since we are on a roll, here, with the Brits, why not throw another on the pile? Portishead is from Bristol (not Connecticut). I purchased their first album (“Dummy”), shortly after it was released, in 1994. There were several songs from that album that I still rotate heavily on my current playlists. “It could be Sweet” is probably one of my favorites from that album. Their productivity has been patchy over the years. Portishead‘s third album, appropriately titled “Third,” was released last year. I skimmed it when it was first released, there are also several tracks from “third” that I hear pretty regularly on the streaming station to I listen to during the day. Maybe it will grow on me. But so far, I feel like it is over my head, for the most part. Their self titled second album (1997), however, in my opinion is equally as good as “Dummy.” The song I’m sharing today is from the self titled album. It is called “Half Day Closing.” Why do I like it? The bass line is reminiscent of early Bauhaus stuff. The way it builds is similar to Led Zeppelin‘s “Stairway.” Then it dissipates into nowhere. This song gets under my skin, big time. It won’t hurt my feelings if you hate it. Press Play, if you feel so inclined.

Addie walked in while this song was playing and asked “Are you watching a scary movie?”
