Reagan and I have been totally stressing about the funding situation under which Piper went back to Blythedale. I have gone into detail about it in previous posts. Well, I have been leaving messages, since the middle of last week, trying to get a hold of the woman who was working on Piper’s SSI application. I was really starting to get frustrated that I wasn’t getting a return call. Amazingly enough, when I was checking the mail last night, we had a letter stating that Piper had been approved. Holy cow! It was an enormous load off of my mind. It almost makes me want to go through and redact all of the mean stuff that I wrote about incompetent social workers. [warning: heart is now on sleeve] Anyway, thank you, to all of those who expressed words of encouragement throughout this latest ordeal. I really don’t know what we would do without such inspiring friends and family. One thing is for sure, God is a fan of Piper. Because, there was no way that this recent insurance mess was going to be resolved without an act of God. Sometimes it mystifies me as to why Piper would want to have a punk like me for her dad, when she is clearly so well connected. I guess maybe she wanted someone who has a lot of experience pushing paper. What ever the reason is, I’m sure glad that I landed the role. It’s like the Beastie Boys said: “when you got so much to say, it’s called gratitude.. yeah, that’s right.”

As it turns out, my jubilation may have been a bit premature. After some phone conversations today, it appears that although Piper has been approved for SSI, she has still not been officially approved for the medicaid portion of the benefits. We should find out about this in 2 weeks, or so. In the mean time, I still have to go to a hearing next Thursday, appealing the decision of her previously submitted application for medicaid. Keep your fingers crossed.
Whatever the outcome I am also a fan of piper! I like to think of God as our number one fan! The best part is he doesn’t stalk us or send us crazy emails! I hope the paperwork goes in your favor and is easier than expected!
In my experience, once SSI says yes, medicaid is a piece of cake.
