That’s what I’m talking about

I don’t mean to be dramatic, but this has been a fairly turmoil filled week. The layoffs were the probably the biggest source of craziness. But there were plenty of other events that also considerably shook up the comfortable little status quo. Today however, has been right on track as a segway into a morale building weekend. Off, the cheesy charts, I know.

It started off with finding a parking spot pretty much right away this morning (always an appreciated event). When I got back to the pad I checked my account online. Yep, payday. I can never complain about that, even when a solid chunk is going straight to the landlord.

Then, as soon as I sat down at work, I received a call from my bank’s fraud department. They just wanted to verify that some recent transactions were legitimate. They were. Way to stay on top of things, though, guys!

Soon thereafter, I received a call from my lone work friend to survive the January layoff. He was let go yesterday. If you were doing the math, then you probably realize that I now have lost all of my good friends that I worked with. Anyway, he was just rolling out of bet at 10:30 and wanted to fill me in on his plans to head out to Montauk later this afternoon. Also, his plans to spend several days there surfing and kayaking. He mentioned that he is now toying with the idea of enrolling in those pilot lessons that he has been putting off. Normally, I probably would have been wallowing in my own jealous misery after a conversation like that. But in this instance, although I was envious, I am also very happy for the way that he isn’t letting mundane corporate BS slow him down. He could be in a bar somewhere getting plowed, like others in his situation.

Almost immediately after hanging up the phone with my friend, I received a message from Reagan telling me that she had cleaned the guest bedroom. Woo hoo! It had become a bit of a disaster, and I had been pestering her about it. I just want to clarify, that the reason it was a bit of a disaster was not anyone’s fault. It was because all of Piper’s stuff was piled in there from when we brought it back from Jersey. We weren’t sure where she would be going next, but didn’t want to go through the trouble of unpacking it etc., if we were just going to be loading back into the car a couple of days later. Anyway, it had been bothering me since we returned from vacation and I was so happy to hear that she had taken the initiative to resolve it.

Still reading? As if all of the events mentioned above were not enough to get some positivity going, my advent chain was down to the last link today. Ok, so I didn’t really make an advent chain. But maybe I should have, because I had actually forgotten that my online purchase was arriving today. Imagine my elation when the mail room delivery guy walked into my office carrying our new backpacks. I checked them out. They are perfect. Here’s to getting the weekend started right, nice and early on Friday morning.

Oh yeah, one more kind of cool thing: Gothamist used one of my photos today.
