I’m getting pretty excited to spend some time outside watching free music this summer. Last year we saw Beastie Boys outside twice (at the C. Park stage and McCarren Park Pool). I have perused through the Central Park Summer Stage lineup for this year, and there are a couple of noteworthy acts. June 14th is Vampire Weekend and Kid Sister. Something tells me that show will probably be the most heavily attended of the Summer Stage lineup. Especially with the way that VW has been blown up by the press over the winter, not to mention that Kid Sister has had MTV rotation. I’m personally not a huge fan, but Reagan likes them and their show is on a Saturday night. So I would guess that there is about an 80% that we will be there. Then, on July 27th , one of my favorite childhood ska bands, the Skatalites will be performing in the afternoon. I think that Ska music probably produces one of the best GA live music atmospheres, especially if you enjoy dancing at shows. Unfortunately, Reagan kind of hates ska. But she has never seen it live. Hopefully I will be able to convince her to go. I would love to put on my rude boy get-up and skank the night away (53% chance). For all of you recovering hippies, or those just looking for a good contact high, Crosby Stills and Nash will be performing the following Tuesday. As much as I admire their talent, there is about a 2% that I will be attending that one. I am also a big fan of the free outdoor movies. There are supposed to be some new rooftop outdoor screening venues opening up this summer. I’ll get back with another list, as soon as I have time to sufficiently look into it. Brooklyn Bridge Park, is my favorite of the venues that I have previosly been to, for 2 reasons. 1, it is close enough that I can get there from work before the movie starts. 2, the crowd there is pretty much the exact opposite of what you will encounter at the Bryant Park screenings. Brooklyn Bridge Park will post their lineup in May.
